Mug Pots

Dollar Store mugs and an oil-based Sharpie pen are all you need!

I have been wanting to try my hand at this simple Sharpie craft I’ve seen on Pinterest. With a Master Gardener fundraiser coming up, I decided this would be a perfect time.

Use an oil paint Sharpie permanent pen to draw faces on mugs, bowls or pots. You can draw the designs on lightly in pencil first, if you like. I freehanded my designs on four Dollar Store mugs. Use black and white, like I did, or have some fun with color!

After drawing the faces, let them dry for a few hours. Then place the mugs in a cool oven and turn it on to 300 degrees. Set a timer for 20 minutes, then turn off the oven. Let the mugs stay in the oven until cool. By doing this, you keep the mugs from getting too hot or cool quickly, which could cause them to crack.

Once the mugs have cooled, add potting soil and plants of your choice. Remember that there are no drainage holes, and water the new plants carefully.
